JUP-Nepal arranging “monitoring HR violation during the election”
24-03-2008
JUP has been working in HR issues since its inception and it has very much involved in expanding its network of people, organizations and communities in and out of the country. It has been actively involved in establishing the national apex organizations relating to Human Rights. Likewise, it has been affiliated with some international networks of HR and obtained special Consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. In fact, JUP is lobbing to raise the caste, work and decent base discrimination at the UN bodies and international forum. It initiated preparing the national alternative report for UN’s CERD first time in 1998 and actively participated in the World Conference against Racism, Racial discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance-2001. It further plans to expand alliances and partnerships with other organizations according to the requirements of the issues.
During historic people’s movement-II, JUP carried out monitoring of human rights violation through its networks, lobbying with civil societies and international communities for restoring absolute democracy, publishing against tyranny, establishing fund for Dalit martyrs of people’s movement, and actively participating in the demonstration and networks of civil societies. JUP-Nepal with joint coordination of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has been working on “Untouchability-based Human Rights Violations: Implementation and Obligation” at center to regional level. It has also close working relationship with OHCHR, UNMIN and other human rights institutions.
Now we are going to have the historic election of constituent assembly. It is a good event for Dalits and other marginalized community for bargaining on sharing the power through state restructuring. In a country with low level of awareness like ours, many types of human rights violation occurs during the election which snitch their political rights and rights of choosing their representatives fairly. Generally it happens to Dalits and other marginalized communities using them as a vote bank. So, in this regard JUP-Nepal decided to monitor the Human Rights violation during the election of constituent assembly in Central, Western and Mid-western regions in collaboration with its affiliated member organizations. For this, JUP officials, members and staffs are assigned in the regions i.e. Amrit Bishwakarma, Raj Kumar Gandharba and Basanti Sunar for Central region, Rewant Gahatraj, Raju Rasali and Maya BK in Western region and Babu Ram Bishwakarma, Sushila KC and Santosh Kumar BK in Mid-western region. They will mobilize the volunteers for their regions in association with JUP affiliated member organizations. These members in coordination with alliance member organizations and HR networks will aware the voters regarding the possible HR violation and monitor the HR violation during election. They will update the record of human rights violation, supply the information to the media, submit report to the concerned and publish in a book form.
In this regards, we expect support and collaboration from all the concern organizations, individuals and networks.
